New Year, New Music // 'Dark Side' Official Video & Song out now

As I prep for an album release in March, I’ve begun releasing several original songs, many were 2+ years in the making. I tend to be a perfectionist when making music - always waiting for the perfect time to make them public. But the time is now. My latest song & video premiered last Friday called Dark Side.

So here’s my hot take from the song: Each of us has a Dark Side.

What?? Not me, Jeremy, I am a good person. Life is easy if you just do all the right things. I don’t struggle with anything in my personal life.

If the comment above is you, you are either living in complete denial of your flaws, OR, you are not my target audience for this song - but I challenge you to reconsider :)

The purpose of the song is to promote self-awareness and vulnerability with others by exposing my own Dark Side tendencies. For instance:

  • It is hard to share with the world that I’ve spent too much time (& money) at the bar. And that I am still tempted to do so.

  • It is hard to admit to you that I crave attention from others and have compromised my values to receive it.

  • It is hard for me to overcome temptation and resist what I want in order to do what is best for myself and others.

But as stated in our Flick family values, we can do hard things. And it is important to remember that we are all a work in progress.

The truth is that we are all overcoming something.

Outwardly, I’ve worked hard to maintain the illusion that I have it all together. Most people believe their intentions are always good. But by taking time to reflect (and pray), our selfish motives will be exposed to us so we can work on them. And we are always better together.

So here’s to fighting our battles together in 2024.

PS.

This music video was originally filmed LAST January - so it has been a full year since the song & video were finalized. It’s an odd, slightly overwhelming sensation to watch something created by me, that is also for me. I’m proud to say the message is just as relevant for me today as it was last year.
