Protagonist // Rap Album and New Video
Honestly, releasing this album took guts, a change of heart, and a ton of support from friends (specifically my wife) who convinced me it’s worth sharing with the world. For years I refused to call myself a “rapper” for fear of any negative connotation it might hold. Well… I finally did it - and there’s no turning back!
Protagonist is my first album composed entirely of rap music. Each song represents a theme of our main character’s story - and yes, I am the main character (spoiler alert!). Some themes are vague, some specific, and some aggressive - but the thing I want listeners to grasp is the release of expectations.
I, as the creator, have no obligation to explain or defend my writing.
You, as the listener, have no obligation to like, resonate, or even understand what I am trying to convey in these songs. And that’s the beauty of art. Just as I set you free, I am set free.
Yet at the same time these songs hold personal value to me, so sending them into the world is a scary thing. There’s a personal journey in every project and I’m still learning how to let go of what other people want me to write. I am proud of myself for taking this leap of faith. I hope you can appreciate the direction of this project and that you find it valuable - but even if you don’t, that is okay too.
