Basics was written amidst our country’s recent misfortune. The last several months have been unpredictable. I believe our culture has fallen prey to its age of immediacy. We desire control in each aspect of our lives, so much so, that when outcomes beyond our influence take place, we don’t know how to react. It’s like we haven’t planned for this.
And perhaps that is the issue.
As the second single from my first official rap album (set to release October 9), I hope this song is a healthy reminder to go back to basics in times of uncertainty. No need to overthink the simple things in life. Save, plan, and pray.
